What Our Patients Says

FAQ

Everyone, including young children, should visit the dentist at least once every six months. Permanent teeth are designed to last a lifetime. The risk of tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss can be reduced with good oral hygiene, a low sugar diet, use of a mouth guard when playing sport, and regular visits to the dentist. Modern techniques mean that dental treatment can be carried out with no or minimal discomfort. Dentistry is advancing quickly and implants are more routinely placed for many clients, who prefer not to lose a tooth or want to fill a space where a tooth is lost. The maintenance of implants is paramount to their success and longevity; therefore regular visits to your dentist and hygienist are important. Your dentist/hygienist can also give advice regarding the cleaning and maintenance of removable appliances, such as dentures or oro-facial prostheses. It is important that you still have regular examinations with your dentist even if you have no natural teeth, as the dentist needs to look for changes in your gums and the underlying bone.
Initial Consultation The first people you will meet will be our friendly reception staff, who will ask you to complete a medical form. At your consultation you will have the opportunity to discuss any dental concerns you may have or how you would like your teeth improved and also the nature of treatments, you might require in future. Study models are taken to study your case in your absence and show you a mock up of final outcome of the procedure; we plan for you. This is mostly required for smile designing, orthodontics, full mouth rehabilitation programs, implants etc.
When is root canal treatment needed? The crown of the tooth is made up of the hard, white, enamel layer and a thicker dentine layer. Both these hard layers protect the innermost soft tissues of the tooth called the pulp. The dental pulp contains blood vessels and nerves within and extends from the crown to the tips of the root or roots. Root canal treatment involves the removal of the pulp tissues from the tooth in the event that it gets infected or inflamed. The pulp can be infected or inflamed due to either Deep decay that involves the pulp Cracked or fractured tooth due to trauma Excessive wear of enamel and dentine exposing the pulp and Severe gum disease. Signs of pulp damage may include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discoloration of the tooth, swelling, and tenderness of the overlying gums or a bad taste in the mouth. On the other hand, there may be no symptoms at all. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can eventually cause pain, swelling and loss of the supporting bone
ABOUT COSMETIC DENTAL TREATMENTS Cosmetic dental treatments include techniques that restore, whiten or straighten your teeth. They are usually carried out by a dentist, but some require an orthodontist. If you have any tooth decay or gum disease, you will need to get this treated before you start cosmetic dental treatment. Tooth Restoration Fillings, crowns and veneers can all be used to restore decayed, worn or broken teeth. Your dentist will be able to advise you which treatments are most suitable.
Dental care is a continuous process which starts in the womb (in expectant mothers) and continues lifelong. Tooth decay can begin as soon as teeth emerge in an infant’s mouth and progress rapidly to cause pain and even harm the permanent teeth that are still growing under the gums. Left untreated, it can destroy the teeth of an infant or young child and can affect a child’s general health. Children with healthy teeth chew food easily, gain more nutrients from food they eat, learn to speak clearly, and smile with confidence. Parents are responsible for ensuring their children practice good dental hygiene. Parents must introduce proper oral care early in a child’s life-as early as infancy
